Meet the team - Operations Manager, Faith Shaw
In the second of our 'meet the team' interviews, we'd like to introduce BePlas Operations Manager, Faith Shaw. In our Industry where precision and efficiency are paramount, she stands as the captain of our operational ship, navigating the team through challenges and steering us towards new heights.
Q. How did you find your way to Beplas?
Arguably, my time at Beplas started over 20 years ago (I know I don’t look old enough…and I’m not). When I first joined the company, I told Jay I ‘I knew nothing about plastics’, but he reminded me of the time 5-year-old me interrupted a sales meeting, that my Dad (Steve Shaw) was holding, to show off my knowledge of our flagship product FRP.
Q. What was your path to your current role?
I started with the basics about 6 years ago, sending out samples and general admin, with a couple of days a week in the warehouse to get an understanding for the dispatch process. About a year later, I moved into the sales team processing orders, generating quotes, and dealing with customer enquiries. My role expanded organically, and I began assisting with areas such as marketing and lead generation. Then at the end of last year I progressed to my current role of Operations Manager.
Q. As the Operations Manager at Beplas, what are your primary responsibilities and key areas of focus?
In short, my job is to make sure everything from the point of initial sales enquiry up to the point of installation, runs smoothly, constantly focusing on giving customers the best service possible. The role requires adaptability as no two days are ever the same. In some capacity I am involved with every aspect of the business. For example, I coordinate couriers, collaborate with the marketing team, and monitor the sales team’s performance to ensure we’re constantly achieving high customer satisfaction levels and striving to exceed expectations.
Q. Are there any specific skills or areas of expertise you're currently focused on developing further?
I am in the middle of completing my National Higher Education Diploma in Business Management through Open University. The course is very broad, covering a wide range of skills from communication in business to accounting. Whilst it is hard to juggle with working full time, I’ve found it extremely beneficial so far. It’s highlighted my strengths and weaknesses, both of which I’m excited to build on as the course continues.
Q. Can you share a success story that highlights the impact of your contributions to the company's operations?
The recruitment of our newest warehouse team members certainly comes to mind. Both Corey and Jordan are great additions to the team. There is a lot to learn with our vast product range and they have both taken it in their stride with great attitudes.
Q. What do you envision for the future of operations at Beplas?
My goal is to lead Beplas towards a future where operational excellence is synonymous with customer satisfaction and sustainability. I will do so through strategic vision, collaborative leadership, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Q. Outside of work, what are your interests or hobbies?
I have just booked my wedding for next year, so planning has taken over my whole life! Other than that, I love the Lake District and my fiancé, and I are on a mission to hike all 214 Wainwrights.
Q. Is there a piece of advice or a philosophy that guides your approach to both your professional and personal life?
“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail”, something my Dad has told me for as long as I remember. When I’m feeling overwhelmed with work or in my personal life it reminds me to take a step back, assess what needs to be done, make a plan and execute it.
